A conventional static website is a set of files linked together. This is a good approach if you need an informational site that does not require frequent updating. It's not the best solution if: - you have design skills, but don't want to bother with the technical aspects of making a web site - the site requires frequent updating - updating is best done by non-technical people - a private Intranet is desired - advanced features such as database, broadcast email, schedules and calendars are needed. The InfoWeb system handles all of those requirements - at the click of a button. No programming required. The architecture of the 'InfoWeb' system, is illustrated below.
Our web server is Apache, our application server is WebObjects and our database is FrontBase. The program that ties everything together and provides the InfoWeb functionality is written in Java.
